Sunday, March 6, at sea

While Jan napped on Friday, I took a guided tour of the ship and quickly learned my bearings. I also got used to saying deck instead of floor and cabin instead of room. I didn't have much occasion to call the walls bulkheads, or the stairways ladders, because Jan took only the elevators. Lots of copies of this trifold brochure were provided, for those who didn't catch on as quickly.

Here's the inside of the trifold. The Norwegian line makes a big deal out of their "Freestyle cruising." This means you don't have fixed seating at a fixed time, but can drop in at any of the restaurants at any time, and sit with whoever you choose. We made lots of friends this way. We mostly ate at Raffles, the cafeteria/buffet on deck 12, so Jan could find foods that appealed to her in portions she could manage.

This is the front page of the trifold pocket card.

This is the back page of the trifold pocket card. You can see that this ship moves right along, at 24 knots (28 mph).

Jan models a swimsuit.

Getting ready for a relaxing soak in the hot tub. There were four of them on Deck 12, along with a pool.

Jan mugs for the camera.

Jan looks out the porthole.

Jan and I attended a short lecture on Barbados in the ship's theater.

We learned that the islands were formed volcanically, that most changed hands between British and French several times, and that local currencies vary. Jan "won" the fanny pack she is wearing here as a door prize when we attended a lecture to "teach us how to shop." Actually the lecture was to persuade us that the most important item of value is diamonds, and to recommend shops connected with the cruise line. Before the seminar, I persuaded the presenter that it was important to make sure the lady with the walker in the front row won a door prize.

In the evening, we attended a magic show, Knight Magic with Tyler Knight and his assistant Mistie, direct from Las Vegas.

Our cabin stewards surprised us with this crab when we returned to the stateroom

Jan was loving this.

She couldn't get enough of it.
